Title

Substitute resolution relating to opting to have tax and water bills emailed.

Analysis

This resolution directs the City Treasurer and the Milwaukee Water Works to:

 

1.                     Generate estimates of possible cost savings if property owners and water utility customers were given the option to have their property tax bills and water bills emailed rather than mailed.

2.                     Develop recommendations on how to best implement options to have property tax bills and water bills emailed.

3.                     Report these cost-savings estimates and implementation recommendations to the Common Council by March 31, 2019

 

Body

Whereas, Options to have bills and other communication emailed rather than mailed are commonplace in the private sector; and

 

Whereas, Emailing property tax bills and water utility bills rather than mailing these bills may save the City money; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Office of the City Treasurer and the Milwaukee Water Works are directed to generate estimates of possible cost savings if property owners and water utility customers were given the option to have their property tax bills and water bills emailed rather than mailed; and, to be

 

Further Resolved, That the Office of the City Treasurer and the Milwaukee Water Works shall develop recommendations on how to best implement options to have property tax bills and water bills emailed rather than mailed conventionally; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Office of the City Treasurer and the Milwaukee Water Works are directed to report their cost-savings estimates and implementation recommendations to the Common Council by March 31, 2019.
