Title

Substitute resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to accept donations from residents, businesses, community organizations and other entities for community outreach activities.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and expend donations to be spent on community outreach.

Body

Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department frequently receive inquiries from residents, businesses, community organizations and other entities regarding donating funds for expanding community outreach activities by the Department; and

 

Whereas, It is in the City’s best interest to augment sources of revenue to widen the Police Department’s ability to engage residents in positive ways; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept and expend donations for community outreach in an amount not to exceed $1 million; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to establish a special account within the budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the Contribution Fund-General, account number 0001-2110-D001-006300, and the Estimated Revenue account for contributions, account number 0001-2110-0001-009850 to the Police Department’s Special Account 0001-3310-006000-DXXX, and the Police Department’s Estimated Revenue account 0001-3310-0001-009850 for the purposes set forth in this resolution in an amount not to exceed $1 million.
