Title
Substitute resolution establishing a City of Milwaukee Mobile Device Management policy for City employees and departments.
Analysis
This resolution establishes a City Mobile Device Management policy. Through this policy the City will establish the rules and conditions for City-supplied cell phones and privately-owned mobile devices being used to conduct City business.
Body
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources; and
Whereas, Mobile devices are being used in almost all City departments to increase performance in the field and extend communications beyond the office; and
Whereas, Without adequate controls, mobile device use can potentially expose individuals and organizations to threats such as data loss or theft and unauthorized access to networks; and
Whereas, The City is committed to providing and promoting mobile technology as appropriate to add value to the community by delivering high quality services at the lowest possible cost; and
Whereas, The scope of this policy includes all City employees and contractors issued and accepting City mobile devices and services from the Information and Technology Management Division; and
Whereas, Through this policy, the City will establish the rules and conditions for City-supplied cell phones and privately-owned mobile devices being used to conduct City business; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a Mobile Device Management policy, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy.
