Analysis
This ordinance establishes a permanent program permitting parking for 5 days consecutively upon highways in specified areas This replaces a pilot program in existence for 2007 and 2008, which was created by common council file number 060100, passed July 12, 2006, and amended by common council file number 071237, passed January 15, 2008. The specified areas for which the 24-hour restriction will be increased to 5 days consecutively include the following:

1. The streets bounded by and including E. Windsor Pl., N. Prospect Ave., E. Juneau Ave., N. Milwaukee St., N. Water St., E. Kane Pl., N. Warren Ave., E. Boylston St. and N. Cambridge Ave.

2. The streets within the rectangle bounded by and including E. Juneau Ave., N. Prospect Ave., E. Wells St. and N. Milwaukee St.

3. E. Juneau Ave. from N. Prospect Ave. to its eastern terminus

Beginning on March 1 of each year and ending on November 30, vehicles will not be permitted to remain standing in one place on highways in the specified areas for more than 5 days consecutively. All other parking restrictions and parking permit requirements shall remain in effect in the specified areas, including metered parking, hourly restrictions and parking prohibitions.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 101-27-1-a of the code is renumbered 101-27-1-a-1.

Part 2. Section 101-27-1-a-2 of the code is created to read:

101-27 All Night Parking.
1. RESTRICTIONS. a-2. The restriction provided in subd. 1 shall be suspended for the period beginning March 1 through November 30 of each year, to permit vehicles to stand in one place on a highway in designated areas for not more than 5 days c...
