Title
Resolution authorizing the installation of a new traffic control signal at the intersection of West State Street and North 8th Street in the 4th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install a new traffic control signal at the intersection of West State Street and North 8th Street with funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund at an estimated cost of $80,000.
Body
Whereas, Continued development has increased pedestrian traffic demand to cross North 8th Street at West State Street; and
Whereas, The intersection of North 8th Street and West State Street is near large pedestrian generators including a large parking structure, the Milwaukee Area Technical College, the Milwaukee County Courthouse complex, and the City of Milwaukee Police Administration Building; and
Whereas, Prior traffic and other changes to improve the availability of safe pedestrian crossing gaps in vehicular traffic and increase pedestrian safety have been implemented at the intersection of North 8th Street and West State Street and have been inadequate to accommodate current demand; and
Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at the intersection of West State Street and North 8th Street will provide for a better exchange of right-of-way to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians across North 8th Street at West State Street; and
Whereas, The estimated cost of the installation of a traffic control signal is $80,000, and is included in the Department of Public Works traffic signal capital fund approved under Common Council File Number 161187; and
