Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the Department of Employee Relations to renew self-insurance status for Worker’s Compensation with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Worker’s Compensation Division.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Employee Relations to renew its self-insurance status for the City’s worker’s compensation benefits with the State of Wisconsin.
Body
Whereas, The Wisconsin Workers' Compensation Act (ACT) provides that employers covered by the Act either insure their liability with workers' compensation insurance carriers, or be exempted (self-insured) from insuring liabilities with carriers and thereby assume responsibility for their own workers' compensation risk and payment; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has chosen to be self-insured for providing worker’s compensation benefits; and
Whereas, The State of Wisconsin requires employers that have self-insurance status for workers' compensation programs to renew their status every three years; and
Whereas, Pursuant to s. 340-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, the Department of Employee Relations, Employee Benefits Division, has the authority to administer the City of Milwaukee's workers' compensation program and is responsible for renewing self-insurance; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Employee Relations is authorized to submit the required application documents along with a certified copy of this resolution for renewal of the City's worker’s compensation self-insurance status with the State of Wisconsin.
