Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Homeland Security/Hazardous Device Unit and Southeastern Wisconsin Terrorism Alert Center Enhancements grant.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Department of Homeland Security/Hazardous Device Unit and STAC Enhancements grant through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance, pursuant to the Federal Homeland Security Grant Program, in the amount of $49,269. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for select items that will enhance the Milwaukee Police Department’s Hazardous Device Unit and the Southeastern Wisconsin Terrorism Alert Center.

Body:
Whereas, Under the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance 97.067, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Department of Homeland Security through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 2/1/09 to 3/31/09 would cost $49,269 of which 100% would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2009 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: Homeland Security/Hazardous Device Unit and STAC Enhancements grant.
