Title

Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to permanently remove all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to permanently remove all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street following the successful completion of a twelve-month trial deactivation period.

Body

Whereas, The traffic signal at the intersection of West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street is not warranted; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council authorized the Commissioner of Public Works to shut down and cover the traffic control signal at West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street under Common Council File Number 071403 to evaluate traffic operation without traffic signal control; and

 

Whereas, The traffic control signal at the intersection of West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street has been shut down and covered since February 2008; and

 

Whereas, Sufficient time has passed for public comment and an engineering evaluation to be performed following the deactivation of the traffic control signal at West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street; and

 

Whereas, The results of the engineering evaluation indicate that the deactivation of the traffic control signal at West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street has not adversely impacted safety, and has resulted in improved traffic flow and reduced traffic congestion; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to permanently shut down and remove all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of West Bolivar Avenue and South 6th Street.
