Substitute resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Fire Department to enter into an agreement with Concordia University in connection with the Athletic Training Program of the University.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) to enter into an agreement with Concordia University in connection with Athletic Training Program.
It is to the mutual interest and advantage of both the entities that the students of the Athletic Training Program of the University be given the opportunity to supplement academic preparation for the practice of their profession with clinical experience provided by the Milwaukee Fire Department. The parties agree that by working together they will be contributing to the development of a highly qualified pool of Athletic Trainers.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department implemented the Wellness Program in 2009 to be proactive in its coordination of Fitness and Performance amongst its members contributing to a reduction in the likelihood of injuries on the job and in 2016 an Athletic Trainer was hired to further expand the fitness, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation program; and

Whereas, Since its inception the Fire Department’s overall Wellness Program has seen a 51% reduction of injury claims and 66% reduction in lost time injuries; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department will sponsor Fifth Year Athletic Training Program students from Concordia University to fulfill their Capstone Field Clinical Project; and

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the attached agreement between the City of Milwaukee Fire Department and Concordia University to supplement academic preparation of the practice of the profession of Athletic Trainer with clinical experience provided by the Milwaukee Fire Department, and subject to such changes as the City Attorney may approve in negotiation with Concordia Univ...
