Title
Substitute resolution relating to the reporting of findings from any internal and external investigations of the Milwaukee Health Department and the City of Milwaukee’s efforts with respect to lead abatement.
Analysis
This resolution directs all City departments to share the results of any internal and external investigations of the Milwaukee Health Department and the City of Milwaukee’s efforts with respect to lead abatement with the Common Council at the same time they are shared with the office of the Mayor.
Body
Whereas, Serious deficiencies in record-keeping and operation of the Milwaukee Health Department’s lead abatement program have recently been brought to light; and
Whereas, The Mayor and Health Department representatives have acknowledged that investigations into the operation of the Health Department’s lead abatement program are on-going; and
Whereas, Lead abatement and lead poisoning prevention are issues that require both urgency and thoughtfulness from members of the Common Council; and
Whereas, Any delay between the presentation of the results of investigations to the Mayor and communication of the results to Common Council members impacts the ability of members of the Common Council to respond to constituents’ concerns and to take appropriate action in their role as legislators; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that all City departments are directed to share the results of any internal and external investigations of the Milwaukee Health Department and the City of Milwaukee’s efforts with respect to lead abatement with the Common Council at the same time they are shared with the office of the Mayor.
