Title

Analysis

This resolution directs the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into an agreement with WISDOT and the City of Greenfield for the maintenance of CSD features along South 27th Street (STH 241) between West College Avenue and West Oklahoma Avenue, and along West Layton Avenue between South 27th Street and the North-South Freeway.

Body

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) has allocated 1.5 million dollars for the construction of Community Sensitive Design (CSD) features including median trees, gateway monuments, wayfinding signs, advance intersection signs, banners and banner poles along segments of South 27th Street (STH 241) and West Layton Avenue in the Cities of Milwaukee and Greenfield for construction in 2010; and

 

Whereas, The WISDOT will start a multiyear reconstruction of the Mitchell Interchange and I-94 from the south City limits to West Howard Avenue in 2009 which will result in long-term local street closures and ramp closures on the freeway which will change travel patterns and access in the area of South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue; and

 

Whereas, The enhanced wayfinding signing and advanced intersection signing portions of the CSD improvements will assist drivers redirected by the freeway construction to businesses along South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue; and

 

Whereas, The CSD improvements will enhance the aesthetics’ of the area along South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue and enhance the business environment; and

 

Whereas, Ongoing maintenance of the CSD improvements is necessary to maintain the aesthetic value and enhanced business environment; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to execute the agreement with WISDOT and the City of Greenfield for the maintenance of CSD features along segments of South 27th Street and West Layton Avenue, copies of which are attached to Common Council Resolution File Number 081437 and is incorporated in this resolution by reference as though set forth in full.
