This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into an agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the development, implementation and funding of traffic control and other safety measures and City staff meeting attendance necessary to mitigate traffic diversion on City streets due to construction activity on the Mitchell Interchange and I-94 North-South Corridor in 2009 and 2010; total cost $225,000 of which 100% is grantor funded.
Body
Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be starting reconstruction of the Mitchell Interchange and I-94 from the south city limits to West Howard Avenue in 2009 and 2010; and

Whereas, Construction activity on the Mitchell Interchange and the I-94 North/South Corridor is expected to result in the diversion of traffic on the local street system during this project due to long-term local street closures and lane and ramp closures on the freeway; and

Whereas, Preliminary approval has been received from the WisDOT, along with a Project Agreement to be executed by the City of Milwaukee, to provide reimbursement of actual costs for necessary services and items provided by the city for local street vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic impact mitigation measures and related staff attendance at project meetings in conjunction with the Mitchell Interchange and I-94 North/South Corridor construction; and...
