Title

Substitute resolution relating to the design of a City of Milwaukee - Clean Milwaukee Campaign.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to collaborate with the Department of Neighborhood Services and the Health Department to design a Clean Milwaukee Campaign modeled on a proposal made by the Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful organization.

Body

Whereas, Trash and litter contribute significantly to blight in Milwaukee neighborhoods and the city as a whole, causing residents to disengage from community affairs; and

 

Whereas, Cleanup campaigns, especially those that include residents, instill pride in neighborhood residents and can rekindle resident engagement in community affairs, and

 

Whereas, Cleanup campaigns have the potential to improve public health, reduce crime and increase property values; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to collaborate with the Department of Neighborhood Services and the Health Department to design a Clean Milwaukee Campaign modeled on a proposal made by the Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful organization; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Department of Public Works shall include in this design outreach and community education components, with the participation of volunteers from the affected neighborhoods whenever practical; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Department of Public Works shall include in this design an estimate of costs and potential funding sources; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, The Department of Public Works shall report to the Common Council, not later than September 21, 2017, the specifics of its proposed Clean Milwaukee Campaign.
