Substitute resolution authorizing a memorandum of understanding between the Milwaukee Fire Department and the Milwaukee Public Schools to establish a training/apprenticeship program aimed at preparing persons for careers within the Milwaukee Fire Department.

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to create an apprenticeship program at four MPS high schools to prepare students for careers with the Milwaukee Fire Department following graduation.

Whereas, the Milwaukee Fire Department has established training/apprenticeship programs aimed at preparing persons for careers within the fire department, both as future firefighters/EMTs and skilled tradespeople; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) and the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) wish to create a partnership program for the purpose of preparing high school students to successfully complete the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commissions’ hiring processes for MFD Fire Cadet program, MFD Bureau of Construction and Maintenance apprenticeships, or similar professional and trade careers upon graduation (the “Program”); and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Fire Department have identified four high schools to pilot the Program; and

 

Whereas, MFD contemplates soliciting grant funds and in-kind support from community partners to ensure the success of the Program; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Chief of the Milwaukee Fire Department, or his designee, on behalf of the City of Milwaukee, acting through the Milwaukee Fire Department, is authorized to execute such documents and provide resources and training as necessary to administer an apprenticeship/training program with Milwaukee Public Schools.
