Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install a new traffic control signal at the intersection of West National Avenue and South 37th Street in the 8th Aldermanic District with funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund at an estimated cost of $100,000.
Body
Whereas, South 37th Street is part of a planned bicycle facility to provide direct bicycle and pedestrian access to the Hank Aaron State Trail and the Menomonee Valley; and
Whereas, The number of safe crossing gaps in vehicular traffic on West National Avenue for bicycles and pedestrians crossing at South 37th Street are inadequate to accommodate current demand; and
Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at the intersection of West National Avenue and South 37th Street will provide for a better exchange of right-of-way to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles across West National Avenue at South 37th Street; and
Whereas, The estimated cost of the installation of a traffic control signal is $100,000, and is included in the Department of Public Works traffic signal capital fund approved under Common Council File Number 161187; and
Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at West National Avenue and South 37th Street is scheduled for fall 2017; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to install a new traffic control signal at the intersection of West National Avenue and South 37th Street using funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund.
