Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a Green Solutions grant from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District for the installation of seven (7) green alleys to be constructed as part of the City’s 2017 alley reconstruction program at various locations in the 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th Aldermanic Districts.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division, to accept a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Green Solutions grant funding for the construction of green alleys in the City of Milwaukee in the amount of $565,883 to install seven (7) green alleys that will be constructed as part of the City’s 2017 alley reconstruction program. The resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a Green Solutions Funding Agreement with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to install a total of nine (9) green alleys in 2017.

Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is responsible for collecting and treating wastewater from local sewerage systems; and

Whereas, Green infrastructure, such as green alleys, reduces the volume of stormwater in the sewer system and the amount of pollutants discharged to surface waters; and

Whereas, Green alleys consist of permeable pavers constructed in the center 4-foot of newly reconstructed alleys; and

Whereas, MMSD desires to promote the installation of Best Management Practices such as green alleys and is willing to provide the City funding as part of its Green Solutions Program; and

Whereas, Common Council File Nos. 161439, 161561 and 170018 approved the construction of seven (7) green alleys as part of the City’s 2017 alley reconstruction program at locations bounded by the following areas:

West Greenfield Av., South Layton Bl., West Scott St., South 28th St.
