Minutes note: The court reporter was sworn in. The question was put: Have the members of the Common Council read the Report and Recommendations of the Licenses Committee and the exceptions filed in this matter? All members present indicated they had done so, Ald. Davis EXCUSED. The question was put: Are any of the following or their counsels present and, if so, do they wish to address the Common Council? Pablo De La Cruz or Oliva A. Arias was present by counsel, Attorney Andrew Arena. Shamika M. Evans was not present. Ald. Bohl moved that the Common Council resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole for the purpose of taking testimony in this matter. There was no objection. Lincoln Ave., is a patron of the bar and is related to a family member. She said she has never felt unsafe at the bar or seen anything inappropriate. She is in support of the license and that any dancing in the bar is stopped immediately by the licensees. Dayna Ward, 5350 N. 57th St., has known the proprietors for four years. She was present on the night of the shooting and said that the argument was diffused to the outside of the establishment. She did not view the shooting as she was inside. She is in support of the license and does not have concerns about her safety when she is at the bar. Carmen Munoz, 5320 N. Lovers Lane Rd., is in support of the license. Bryan Shepard, 1331 W. Greenfield Ave., works for the security company hired by the licensees and is in support of the license. Debra Graber, 1574 A S. Union St., works for the security company hired by the licensees and is in support of the license. She says that she has worked at the bar and she also says that there is no language problem between security and patrons. Frank Sadowski, 5191 Sunnyslope Rd., New Berlin, is the owner of the building. He says that he checks on the bar unannounced and that the applicants run a clean, safe establishment. Antonio Oquendo, 1613 S. 10th St., works for the security company hired by the licensees. He says that he rarely sees problems at the bar when working security. Jerry Colon, 3329 N. Holton St., is a patron of the establishment and said that the shooting was an isolated incident at the bar. He is in support of the license. Oliva Arias testified that she had her son call the police to stop what was happening on the night of the shooting because she does not speak English. She also said that there are now signs and cameras in the bar. Ald. Kovac moves to deny based on the police report and neighborhood testimony. Failed 2-3. (Ald. Bohl, Ald. Coggs and Ald. He says that on Thursday nights the music is too loud and prevents him from sleeping. He is opposed to the license. Rachelle Crabtree, 1006 E. State St. #34, lives across the street from the establishment. She says that she has noticed an increase in the noise level from the location that prevents her from sleeping. Ms. Crabtree also said that there are cars honking and people fighting outside when the bar is closing and patrons are leaving. She is opposed to the license. Meeting recessed at 4:00 p.m. Meeting reconvened at 4:05 p.m. Ald. Bauman has no objection to the Class “B” license being renewed but he is objecting to the Tavern Dance license. Ajit Walia, brother of the applicant, at the table. He says that he received a noise complaint on one occasion and that he did not notice the noise himself when he went outside to investigate. He says has contacted Ald. Bauman about problems with the noise and says that the noise level will be monitored. Ald. Bauman says that a nightclub does not belong at the location. Sgt. Ulickey mentions that bottle service, which is being advertised at the location, is prohibited by city ordinances. Ald. Kovac moves to grant with a warning letter based on neighborhood objections.
