Title

Resolution relating to the inclusion of the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation in the City of Milwaukee Employees’ Combined Giving Campaign.

Analysis

This resolution directs the proper City officials to take the actions necessary to ensure that the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is included as a participating recipient of donations in the City’s future Combined Giving Campaign.

Body

Whereas, The City's Combined Giving Campaign is an annual fund drive in which City employees pool their resources to improve the quality of life in the Milwaukee community by contributing to umbrella groups of local nonprofit agencies, individual agencies within those umbrella groups, various designated unaffiliated agencies or other qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide health or human services in Wisconsin; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Public Library Foundation was established in 1988 to generate private-sector support to supplement tax-based funding for the Milwaukee Public Library; and

 

Whereas, The mission of the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is to provide essential support through private contributions for books, materials, programs, and library facilities to ensure the Milwaukee Public Library's continued standing as a great library responsive to community needs; and

 

Whereas, Contributions to the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation support lifelong learning from early literacy programs to assistance for job seekers; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officials are directed to take the actions necessary to ensure that the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is included as a participating recipient of donations in future Combined Giving Campaigns.
