Resolution supporting the designation of a corridor crossing central Wisconsin as United States Bike Route 30 by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
Body
Whereas, Bicycle tourism is a growing industry in North America, contributing $47 billion a year to the economies of communities that provide facilities for such tourists; and

Whereas, The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has designated a corridor crossing central Wisconsin to be developed as United States Bike Route 30; and

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the Wisconsin Bike Federation, and the Adventure Cycling Association have proposed a specific route to be designated as United States Bike Route 30, a map of which is herein incorporated into this resolution by reference; and

Whereas, The proposed route for United States Bike Route 30 comes through the City of Milwaukee and can therefore provide a benefit to Milwaukee residents and businesses; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works staff have investigated the proposed route within the City limits and found it to be a suitable route and support that the route be designated so that it may be mapped and signed, thereby promoting bicycle tourism in the City of Milwaukee and in the state of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council expresses its support for the development of United States Bike Route 30, and requests that the appropriate officials see to it that the route is officially designated by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials as soon as this can be achieved; and, be it

Further Resolved, That Department of Public Works staff is authorized to work with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and its partners on the posting of route signs within Milw...
