Title
Substitute resolution relating to the Office of Violence Prevention.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Office of Violence Prevention to make an annual oral and written report to the Common Council on the Office’s activities.
Body
Whereas, The Office of Violence Prevention was established as an operating unit within the Health Department as part of the City’s 2005 Adopted Budget to more effectively address violence prevention; and
Whereas, The core mission of the office of violence prevention is to reduce violence in Milwaukee, and to provide strategic direction and oversight for City efforts to reduce the risk of violence through linked strategies in partnership with government, non-profit, neighborhood and faith organizations; and
Whereas, The Office of Violence Prevention reports directly to the Health Commissioner; and
Whereas, An annual report to the Common Council on the activities of the Office of Violence Prevention will facilitate the formation of more effective policy to prevent violence in the city; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Office of Violence Prevention is directed to make an annual oral presentation and submit an annual written report of the office’s activities to the Common Council.
