Analysis

This resolution cancels 2015 property taxes, plus special assessment charges, for the property at 5620 N. 38^th Street owned by United Christian Church.

Body

Whereas, In October 2014, United Christian Church purchased the property at 5620 N. 38^th Street (tax key no. 171-9828-100) from Emanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church; and

Whereas, The property, 5620 N. 38^th Street, was in non-profit status with the State of Wisconsin and exempted from property tax from 2003 through 2014; and

Whereas, United Christian Church did not submit an application for tax exemption by the statutory March 1, 2015, deadline; and

Whereas, The Common Council of the City of Milwaukee finds that United Christian Church is a religious and benevolent organization which should not be subject to property taxation on its church building and should not be required to pay 2015 property taxes based on a technicality; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officials are directed to cancel the 2015 property taxes, plus the special assessment charges, for tax key no. 171-9828-100 (5620 N. 38^th Street); and, be it

Further Resolved, That the proper City officers are authorized and directed to reflect the reduction in State Tax Credits as shown in this file by means of journal entries, charging the 2016 Remission of Taxes Fund, 0001 Org 9990 Program 0001 Subclass S163 Account 006300, and crediting the State Tax Credit Fund.
