Title

Resolution authorizing the City Attorney to extend the contract between the City and Kohn Law Firm for the collection of City receivables for one year.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the City Attorney to extend the contract for collection of City receivables for one year, until December 31, 2017.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee entered into a five-year contract with the Kohn Law Firm for the collection of City receivables, to expire December 31, 2016 ;and

 

Whereas, In order to have a new contract in place by the end of 2016, contract specifications would have to be developed, and a Request for Proposals issued in September of 2016; and

 

Whereas, During 2016 and 2017 the Treasurer’s office will be developing and implementing a new system for the collection of City taxes, making it impractical to develop complete contract specifications at this time; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council has created a debt collection work group that, during 2016, will be studying and recommending new approaches to collection City debt which would be included in contract specifications; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Attorney is authorized to extend the contract for the collection of City receivables until December 31, 2017.
