Analysis
This resolution implements a provision of the 2009 City Budget that directs expenditures from the Milwaukee Public Library Neighborhood Libraries and Extension Services salaries and wages account relating to the restoration of 3 positions of Library Circulation Assistant I and 3 positions of Librarian II to provide for continuation of current hours of services at the 12 Neighborhood Libraries.
Body
Whereas, The 2009 Proposed City Budget provides $5,573,042 for Milwaukee Public Library Neighborhood Libraries and Extension Services personnel costs, a decrease of $482,724 (-7.97%) from the 2008 Budget including, the elimination of 17 positions; and
Whereas, The intent of the Council in passing amendment 55B to the 2009 City Library Budget is to provide position authority to have current hours of services continue at as many of the 12 Neighborhood libraries as possible including restoration of 3 positions of Library Circulation Assistant I and 3 positions of Librarian II; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees has exclusive control of the expenditures of all moneys collected, donated or appropriated to the library through s. 43.58, Wis. Stats.; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that expenditures from the Libraries Neighborhood Libraries and Extension Services salaries and wages account relating to the restoration of 3 positions of Library Circulation Assistant I and 3 positions of Librarian II are to be released for the purpose of providing a continuation of current hours of services at as many of the 12 Neighborhood Libraries as possible.
