Resolution approving the removal of minimum income limits for Berryland, Northlawn and Southlawn
Analysis
Body
WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) owns and manages more than 968 units of market rate rental at Berryland, Northlawn, Southlawn and Southlawn Park housing developments; which are managed by Friends of Housing (FOH), and
WHEREAS, when FOH accept applications for the market rate properties at Berryland, Northlawn and Southlawn only, the current HACM policy requires that FOH accepts applicants with a minimum income; and
WHEREAS, the current policy eliminates a large number of potential applicants from submitting, accessing and attaining quality housing; and
WHEREAS, the housing industry is very competitive and housing providers use other tools to process applications. Policies as such reduce the application pool and make it more difficult for FOH to select qualified tenants; and
WHEREAS, the Secretary-Executive Director recommends removal of the minimum income limits for Berryland, Northlawn and Southlawn; and now therefore be it
RESOLVED, the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners reviewed and approve the proposed removal of the minimum income limits for Berryland, Northlawn and Southlawn: and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, the removal of the minimum income for Berryland, Northlawn and Southlawn Housing Developments are hereby approved effective June 8, 2016.
