Analysis
This ordinance amends the composition of the black male achievement advisory council by removing the chair of the judiciary and legislation committee and a member of the Milwaukee county board from membership, and adding the common council president or designee and the Milwaukee county executive or designee to membership. In addition, this ordinance removes the U.S. attorney of the U.S. department of justice, U.S. attorney’s office, Eastern District of Wisconsin from membership and adds a representative from the Milwaukee police department, the Milwaukee fire department or the fire and police commission.

Currently, the mayor and the chair of judiciary and legislation committee are co-chairs of the advisory council. This ordinance amends the organization of the black male achievement advisory council by removing the chair of judiciary and legislation committee as co-chair of the advisory council and designating the common council president as co-chair of the advisory council. In addition, the common council president shall designate a vice-chair.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 320-29-3-a-1, 4 and 5 of the code is repealed and recreated to read:

320-29. Black Male Achievement Advisory Council.

3. COMPOSITION

a-1. The common council president, or his or her designee.

a-4. A representative of the Milwaukee police department, the Milwaukee fire department or the fire and police commission, appointed by the common council president.

a-5. The Milwaukee county executive, or his or her designee.
