Title

Substitute resolution authorizing the issuance of a street occupancy permit to Mortenson Construction for work at the new Milwaukee Buck’s arena.

 

Analysis

This resolution authorizes City officials to issue a street occupancy permit to Mortenson Construction, allowing them to occupy the entire roadway of West Highland Avenue between North 5th Street and North 6th Street.  The occupancy permit will be issued jointly to Mortenson Construction and the Bradley Center Sports and Entertainment Corporation (BCSEC) to ensure that the space is utilized in a mutual agreeable manner.

 

Body

Whereas, Mortenson Construction has requested permission to occupy West Highland Avenue between North 5th Street and North 6th Street for the construction of the new Milwaukee Bucks arena; and

 

Whereas, The BCSEC will also need to occupy West Highland Avenue between North 5th Street and North 6th Street for continued operation of the BMO Harris Bradley Center, its loading dock and parking structure during the time that the new arena is under construction; and

 

Whereas, Mortenson Construction and the BCSEC are working cooperatively to share West Highland Avenue between North 5th Street and North 6th Street in accordance with an agreement to be reached between BCSEC and Mortenson Construction; and

 

Whereas, Mortenson Construction and the BCSEC have requested to jointly hold the occupancy permit; and

 

Whereas, Access to the existing BCSEC parking structure on West Highland Avenue will be maintained as deemed necessary by BCSEC; and

 

Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works may approve temporary occupancy of up to one-third of the width of the roadway while temporary use beyond that point must be approved by the Common Council; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized to issue a permit to Mortenson Construction and the BCSEC, allowing occupancy of the entire roadway of West Highland Avenue between North 5th Street and North 6th Street for work at the new Milwaukee Buck’s arena and continued operation of the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
