Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City of Milwaukee to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Center for Youth Engagement, Inc. regarding the Beyond the Bell initiative and the program’s role within the City of Milwaukee Health Department Office of Violence Prevention.
Body
Whereas, Youth violence is directly related to the City’s quality of life, economic growth and potential growth; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) anticipates an expanded City role in leading youth violence prevention efforts; and
Whereas, The Center for Youth Engagement, Inc. (CYE) currently operates the Beyond the Bell initiative; and
Whereas, The Beyond the Bell initiative has proven to be a successful strategy in engaging youth in over 200 positive after school activities and decreasing the incidence of negative behavior; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee wishes to incorporate this successful program and Beyond the Bell initiative staff into the MHD; and
Whereas, Under this agreement, the duties of the City and CYE are outlined, including the co-management of Beyond the Bell staff by CYE and MHD; and
Whereas, The City will license office space in the Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 North Broadway, to CYE for Beyond the Bell staff; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee is authorized to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Center for Youth Engagement, Inc. regarding the Beyond the Bell initiative, pursuant to an agreement in substantially the same form as the agreement attached hereto; and, be it
Further Resolved, That such authority of the City of Milwaukee Health Department shall continue, unless otherwise rescinded or amended by future Common Council action.
