This resolution transfers $35,000 in funds from the 2015 Capital Improvements-Advance Planning Fund account into a subaccount for an updated market analysis and design charrette for the Near West Side.
Body
Whereas, On March 19, 2004, the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee (“Common Council”) approved the Near West Side Comprehensive Area Plan as one of the components of the Comprehensive Plan; and
Whereas, The Comprehensive Area Plans include a market analysis that draws conclusions regarding certain land uses and locations within the neighborhood and these recommendations are based on economic data and developer opinions and were considered to develop housing and commercial redevelopment recommendations in the Near West Side Comprehensive Area Plan; and
Whereas, In January 2015, the Near West Side Partners, Inc. (“NWSP”) was formed, which is an organization with a mission to revitalize and sustain the Near West Side as a thriving business and residential corridor through collaborative efforts to promote economic development, improved housing, identity and branding, and greater safety for residents and businesses; and
Whereas, The NWSP will participate in a design charrette with the University of Wisconsin Community Design Solutions (“CDS”) focusing on six high-priority commercial corridor redevelopment sites; and
Whereas, CDS has conducted several design charrettes in neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee that have led to redevelopment of properties; and
