Title:
Resolution relative acceptance and funding of a 2015/18 COPS Hiring Program Grant.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a COPS Hiring Program (CHP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $4,220,458 with a city share of 2,345,458 and a grantor share of $1,875,000. The purpose of this project is to hire 15 additional police officers to enhance community policing efforts.

Body:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.710, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 09/01/15 to 08/31/18 would cost $4,220,458, of which 44% would be provided by the grantor, and 56% would be provided by the City; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department will hire 15 new officers for enhanced community policing efforts, and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department is required to maintain these 15 police officer positions for a minimum of 12 months following the 36-month federal funding period; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2015 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: COPS Hiring Grant
