Title
Resolution appropriating up to $3.0 million from the 2008 Common Council Contingent Fund for expenditures by the Department of Public Works relating to snow and ice control.
Body
Whereas, The Department of Public Works is responsible for clearing snow and ice from city streets in a timely fashion to ensure public safety and the operability of the city’s transportation network; and
Whereas, More than 68 inches of snowfall fell between January and April of 2008, greater than the average snowfall for the typical entire winter season, resulting in 42 snow and ice control operations year-to-date; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has spent more for snow and ice control to date than budgeted for 2008; and
Whereas, Expenditure needs for snow removal in November and December is uncertain; and
Whereas, The Department will require additional resources to pay existing invoices related to the earlier snow and ice control operations and normal department activities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that up to $3,000,000 from the Common Council Contingent Fund (#0001-9990-C001-006300) (2008) be appropriated to the Department of Public Works Operations Division Account (#0001-5450-R999-006300) (2008).
