Analysis
This resolution directs the proper City Officers to execute an Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) for a stream bank protection project along the Kinnickinnic River from South 43rd Street to South 60th Street. The resolution also authorizes the proper City Officers to set up funding for the project with a local share of $50,000, budgeted in the City’s 2008 Sewer Maintenance Fund. The purpose of the project is to alleviate the erosion problems along the banks of the Kinnickinnic River from South 43rd Street to South 60th Street.
Body
Whereas, Erosion along the banks of the Kinnickinnic River threaten additional damage to storm sewer outlet pipes along the river from South 43rd Street to South 60th Street; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) has jurisdiction of the Kinnickinnic River for the purpose of planning, designing and constructing improvements to the drainage of lands tributary to the Kinnickinnic River so as to eliminate erosion damage to surrounding properties and infrastructure; and
Whereas, The City owns and is responsible for the storm sewer outlet pipes that have been damaged by storm water sewer discharges and the eroding banks along the Kinnickinnic River; and
Whereas, The City and MMSD agree that the United States Army Corps of Engineers (COE) will design and construct the project; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City Officers are hereby directed to execute an Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement with MMSD for the construction of a streambank protection project along the Kinnickinnic River from South 43rd Street to South 60th Street, said agreement is hereto attached and made part of this resolution; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is authorized to reimburse the MMSD for $50,000 from the City’s 2008 Sewer Maintenance Fund towards the local share of the total cost upon substantial completion of the project.
