Michael Murphy at the table as well. The applicant says that the fight detailed on the police report started outside of the tavern. He says that he has been closing at 10:00p.m. or 11:00p.m. because of problems and has been losing money because of it. He says he himself has called the police and the alderman about traffic, drug activity and other problems in the neighborhood and he says he has put cameras and lights in his property. Neighborhood supporters present: Patrick Fengier, 3745 W. Michigan St., recently moved from 237 N. 37th St. He says that part of the problem is lack of police patrols in the area. He says the neighborhood has changed and that there are a lot of property renters now as opposed to homeowners. Mr. Fengier says that the area in the valley is not being well-represented and he says the bar takes the blame for problems in the neighborhood. Kathleen Thornton, 206 N. 36th St., has lived in the area since 1982. She says a lot of the problems are caused by the neighbors, not the bar. Ald. Zielinski says that there are bars located in high crime areas that don't have problems and asks Ms. Thornton to explain this. She feels that if the bar closes down she will lose a lot of the security of knowing the bar is open and has lights and security cameras. Joann Fitzlaff, 3607 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., doesn't think that the bar is the problem, but the people within a two-block radius of the establishment are the source of the issues. Cliff Pasholk, 213 N. 77th St., not a neighbor, but frequents the establishment. He says the applicant runs a clean establishment and keeps everything in order. Ald. Murphy says about two years ago the applicant stopped running a good bar. He mentions that the applicant's license was previously suspended for 30 days. Ald. Murphy says that there are two other bars in the immediate area that never have the same kinds of complaints. He believes that the bar has become an attractive nuisance. Ald. Murphy says that the applicant has changed the kind of music played in the establishment as recommended previously and he admits that the applicant has called the alderman's office and the police regarding problems. Mr. Crawford says if there are problem patrons he kicks them out. He says he is willing to close at midnight in order to keep his bar. Ald. Arthur Avenue. Special Letter Applicant at the table. Ald. Witkowiak and his Legislative Aide Michael McGuire at the table as well. The application is new because of the change in legal entity status. There is no police report, but a business under the same name is already being operated at the location. Neighborhood objectors present when called: Toni Sinnen, 1436 W. Arthur Ave., lives in the parsonage of the church. She says the noise from the location has been a nuisance, including loud arguing and revving of cars. She says that the neighborhood is quiet aside from the weekend nights. Ms. Sinnen also says that on occasion there have not be problems, but the majority of the time there are. Problem hours are about 1am to 2am. Ald. Witkowiak says that the location is the only source of this kind of noise in the area. Chester Schmear, 1436 W. Arthur Ave., is a pastor at the church. Has been woken up by revving engines, loud talking. Has lived there five years. He says that Ms. Sinnen is still woken up in a sound-proof room in the parsonage. Mr. Molinari says that he obtained security guards two weeks ago. Dawn Palma, owns a duplex one house north of the bar, has owned her home for 10 years. She says she and her husband have been harrassed by the customers of the location. Ms. Palma says that customers have come out of the bar yelling and screaming while the security guards took no action. She also she was shot by gang members that were associated with the people that lived above the bar. Ms. Palma has also seen a patron urinating on the tree in her yard. Mr. Mcguire hosted a neighborhood meeting regarding the tavern last week with seven neighbors attending. Ald. Witkowiak says that he believes the efforts of the applicant are good, but not sufficient for the neighbors. Somala Rodriguez, girlfriend of the applicant, at the table, works at the location. She says that they are trying to approach problem patrons. She says she walks around outside the establishment on Saturday nights. Neighborhood supporters: Yolanda Bernal, 2507 S. 15th St., has been residing at the address for about seven years. Says in the past she had issues at the tavern before it was owned by the current applicant. Mr. Molinari says that he has plans to install security cameras. He also says he is doing his best to address the problems. Ald. Bohl reminds the committee that the change in legal status that the applicant filed for makes the application a new license, not one with vested property right. Ald.
