Title
Resolution to authorize the naming of West Michigan Street as a private road on the campus of Marquette University located south of West Wisconsin Avenue and west of North 11th Street, in the 4th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
Marquette University intends to construct a new building for its law school to be named Eckstein Hall. As part of the site development, a private roadway is proposed to provide access to the front and main entrance of this building. The roadway is to be located on what is currently vacated West Michigan Street. By the City formally recognizing this private roadway as West Michigan Street, addresses can be assigned to support mail delivery and emergency service responses. Additionally, this private portion of West Michigan Street will be tracked on City maps and databases maintained at the City.

Whereas, Marquette University intends to construct a new building for its law school on the block south of West Wisconsin Avenue and west of North 11th Street and proposes to construct a private road through their property; and
Whereas, By the City formally recognizing this private roadway as West Michigan Street, building addresses can be assigned to support mail delivery and emergency service responses; and
Whereas, Chapter 113-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances provides for the naming of private roads and Marquette University has provided a legal description of the limits of the private road; and
Whereas, As a condition of adopting this resolution, Marquette University is responsible for placing brown street name signs in accord with Chapter 113-1 at their cost, as well as placing and maintaining stop signs on West Michigan Street where it meets with North 11th Street to control vehicular traffic leaving the site; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the following private road be described as follows:
