This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install a new pedestrian traffic control signal at the pedestrian crossing on West Wisconsin Avenue at North 15th Street (vacated) with funding from Marquette University at an estimated cost of $40,000.
Body
Whereas, The pedestrian crossing on West Wisconsin Avenue at North 15th Street (vacated) meets Federal warrants for the installation of a pedestrian traffic control signal based on the volume of pedestrians crossing within the Marquette University campus; and
Whereas, The installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons at the pedestrian crossing has improved the number of vehicles yielding to pedestrians crossing but disrupts progressive traffic flow on West Wisconsin Avenue through the Marquette University campus; and
Whereas, The installation of a pedestrian traffic control signal will result in a better exchange of right-of-way between vehicles and pedestrians while minimizing disruptions to progressive traffic flow on West Wisconsin Avenue; and
Whereas, Marquette University has agreed to fund the estimated cost of $40,000 for installing the pedestrian traffic control signal; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to install a new traffic control signal at the intersection of West Wisconsin Avenue and North 15th Street (vacated) using funding from Marquette University.
