Title
Resolution authorizing the installation of a traffic control signal on West Lapham Boulevard at South 9th Street in the 12th Aldermanic District.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install a traffic control signal on West Lapham Boulevard at South 9th Street with funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund.

Body
Whereas, Prior changes to increase pedestrian and vehicle safety have been implemented at the intersection of West Lapham Boulevard and South 9th Street and have been inadequate to accommodate current demand; and

Whereas, The Common Council approved File Number 141582 which authorized the installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons on West Lapham Boulevard at South 9th Street; and

Whereas, The installation of a traffic control signal at the intersection of West Lapham Boulevard and South 9th Street will provide for a better exchange of right-of-way to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians and vehicles at the intersection; and

Whereas, It is recommended that a traffic signal be installed instead of rectangular rapid flashing beacons to better address both vehicular and pedestrian traffic safety at this location; and

Whereas, The estimated cost of the installation of a traffic control signal is $75,000, and is included in the Department of Public Works 2015 traffic control capital improvement program approved under Common Council File Number 141200; and

Whereas, The installation of a traffic signal at West Lapham Boulevard and South 9th Street is scheduled for spring 2015; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to install a traffic control signal on West Lapham Boulevard at South 9th Street using funding from the Department of Public Works 2015 traffic control capital improvement program.
