Analysis
Presently, the 3-member transit stop technical committee approves all bus stop locations within the city. This ordinance renames the committee the “transit stop technical advisory committee” and provides that the common council shall approve each bus stop location, following receipt of a recommendation from the committee. The committee must make its recommendations within 30 days of the date on which the city clerk refers to the committee the proposed bus stop location; if it fails to make a recommendation within 30 days, the council may act on a proposed bus stop location without a committee recommendation.

It is the intent of the sponsor of this ordinance to assign, by common council motion, responsibility for reviewing and approving bus stop locations to the council’s public works committee.
Body
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 101-44-1 of the code is amended to read:

101-44. Bus Stop Locations and Regulations.

1. LOCATIONS. No operator of a duly authorized common carrier of passengers may regularly stop on any highway within the limits of this city for the purpose of receiving or discharging passengers except at such locations approved by the >>common council following receipt of a recommendation from the<< transit stop technical >>advisory<< committee.
