This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a Request for Proposals for the supply and installation of new state-of-the-art water meter testing equipment and for the provision of associated training for the Milwaukee Water Works.

Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Water Works has approximately 170,000 water meters in use in its retail service area; and

Whereas, Accurate water meters are essential for the utility to correctly bill customers for water used, ensuring fair value to the customer and revenue to the utility; and

Whereas, Water meters are tested before installation, periodically to ensure accuracy upon customer request or complaint, and upon removal using a “test bench” which allows multiple meters to be tested simultaneously; and

Whereas, Milwaukee Water Works’ existing test benches are over 30 years old and are ready to be replaced, and modern test benches offer automation and electronic data collection features that will improve work flow and increase efficiency; and

Whereas, A request for proposal process will allow the Milwaukee Water Works to select meter testing equipment that is most appropriate for its use, provide for the installation of the equipment at the Water Meter Shop, and facilitate training of staff on the new equipment; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, That the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to issue a Request for Proposals for the supply and installation of new state-of-the-art water meter testing equipment and for the provision of associated training for the Milwaukee Water Works.
