Title:
Resolution authorizing acceptance and funding of a 2014/2015 Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force grant.
 
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept a Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force grant from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the amount of $104,245.20 with a city share of $-0- and a grantor share of $104,245.20.  The purpose of this grant is to fund overtime expenses for six officers assigned to the Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force whose purpose is to identify and target for prosecution criminal enterprise groups and/or individuals responsible for crimes of violence and to focus on the apprehension of dangerous fugitives where there may be a federal investigative interest.  This task force also enhances the effectiveness of other law enforcement resources through an initiative seeking the most effective investigative / prosecutable avenues to convict and incarcerate dangerous offenders.
 
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for a Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force grant from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and
 
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 10/01/14 to 09/30/15 would cost $104,245.20, of which 100% would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is authorized to accept this grant without further approval unless its terms change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
  1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2014 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects Fund, the following amounts for the project titled: Violent Crime Task Force:

1. Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the project  budget and incur costs consistent with the award date.
