Title
Resolution renewing the sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee Milwaukee and the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa, with a change in local sponsoring organization.
Analysis
This resolution approves the renewal of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa. This sister city relationship shall expire 5 years after adoption of this resolution unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
Local support for this sister city relationship has been transferred from the African American Chamber of Commerce to the Pan-African Community Association.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council created the Sister Cities Committee to assist in the establishment and maintenance of sister city relationships pursuant to Sister Cities International guidelines; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee reviews requests for new relationships, investigates and makes recommendations to the Common Council concerning the establishment of new relationships, and the maintenance or termination of existing sister city relationships; and
Whereas, On April 9, 2008, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 071584, establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee has reviewed the renewal application of the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa, and recommends that a sister city relationship continue pursuant to ch. 335 of the Code; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa, will continue to benefit both cities in the areas of economic development, health care, education, cultural exchange, social awareness and tourism; and
Whereas, Local support for this sister city relationship has been transferred from the African American Chamber of Commerce to the Pan-African Community Association; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the renewal of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and the City of uMhlathuze, South Africa, is approved; and, be it
Further Resolved, That this sister city relationship will receive local support through the nonprofit Pan-African Community Association; and, be it
Further Resolved, That this sister city relationship shall expire 5 years after adoption of this resolution unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
