Title
Resolution authorizing the City Engineer to apply for five Federal Transportation Alternatives Program grants for the 2014-2018 application cycle, with an 80 percent grantor share and a 20 percent local share.
Analysis
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications to utilize funding under the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program. The Department of Public Works is applying for funding for five projects. Successful grant applications will be funded with an 80 percent grantor share and a 20 percent local share.
Body
Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting project applications for funding in fiscal years 2014-2018 under the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program; and
Whereas, Projects approved for the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program will be funded with an 80 percent grantor share and 20 percent local share; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has identified five projects for infrastructure related improvements; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works intends to submit second round of applications for the following projects:
1. City / County Coordinated Trail and Bicycle Facilities Signage Plan
2. Safe Routes to School Policy and School-Specific Plans Development
3. Citywide Bicycle Parking Program
4. Interactive Bicycle Mapping Applications
5. North Emmber Lane and North Plankinton Avenue Bridges Bicycle Plating
; and
Whereas, The total estimated cost of these projects is $1,807,290, with a grantor share of $1,445,832 and a local share of $361,458; and
Whereas, Pre-scoping applications for these projects have previously been submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for consideration to be included in the 2014-2018 Federal Transportation Alternatives Program; and
Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has authorized these projects to be advanced to the second stage of the project selection process, and requested the City of Milwaukee to prepare and submit second round applications for each project; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Engineer is authorized to submit second round applications for the Federal Transportation Alternatives Program for the following projects:
1. City / County Coordinated Trail and Bicycle Facilities Signage Plan
2. Safe Routes to School Policy and School-Specific Plans Development
3. Citywide Bicycle Parking Program
4. Interactive Bicycle Mapping Applications
5. North Emmber Lane and North Plankinton Avenue Bridges Bicycle Plating
; and, be it
Further Resolved, That any successful grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements.
