Title
Resolution authorizing the installation of two new traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street in the 4th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install two new traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street with funding from the Department of Public Works capital fund at an estimated cost of $150,000.
Body
Whereas, Residential and commercial development around Marquette University has increased pedestrian traffic and vehicle demand to cross North 16th Street and North 17th Street at West Kilbourn Avenue; and
Whereas, Prior changes to increase pedestrian and vehicle safety have been implemented at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street and have been inadequate to accommodate current demand; and
Whereas, The installation of two traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street will provide for a better exchange of right-of-way to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians and vehicles at the two intersections; and
Whereas, The estimated cost of the installation of two traffic control signals is $150,000, and is included in the Department of Public Works traffic signal capital fund approved under Common Council File Number 131043; and
Whereas, The installation of two traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street is scheduled for spring and summer 2014; now, therefore, be it
