Title
Substitute resolution relating to the application for technical assistance or grant funding from Bloomberg Associates.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Department of Administration and the Department of City Development to identify and develop a list of potential projects and issues or concerns for application for technical assistance or grant funding from Bloomberg Associates.
 
Potential projects shall be submitted to the Common Council for review and approval within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
Body
Whereas, Milwaukee was one of 20 cities named a finalist in The Mayors Challenge, a national competition organized by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to generate innovative, local solutions to national problems; and
 
Whereas, Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has founded Bloomberg Associates, a consulting firm that will assist municipalities in tackling issues such as transportation, infrastructure and crime at no cost to its clients; and
 
Whereas, Milwaukee has promising economic opportunities that are in need of fostering and could be considered a candidate for technical assistance or grant funding from Bloomberg Associates; and
 
Whereas, Bloomberg Associates offers great opportunities that can help provide Milwaukee with comprehensive strategies on improving economic development and environmental sustainability; and
 
Whereas, Potential projects and issues or concerns for submission to Bloomberg Associates could be selected from the ideas that were generated as part of the process that resulted in HOME GR/OWN being submitted to The Mayors Challenge, or by other means; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Administration and the Department of City Development worked collaboratively to further the development of HOME GR/OWN; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Department of Administration and the Department of City Development are directed to identify and develop a list of potential projects and issues or concerns for application for technical assistance or grant funding from Bloomberg Associates; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, Potential projects and issues or concerns shall be submitted to the Common Council for review and approval within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
