Title
Substitute resolution relating to the City's position regarding redevelopment and reuse of General Mitchell Air Reserve Station, to be called the Milwaukee 440th Local Redevelopment Authority (440th LRA).
Analysis
This resolution expresses the City's position that the property made available by the closure of the 440th Air Force Reserve Station be used for relocating the operations of Signature Flight Support and Skyway Airlines, Inc., and urges the Milwaukee 440th Local Redevelopment Authority to support such relocation.
Body
Whereas, On May 31, 2006, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 060126, authorizing the City's participation in an intergovernmental agreement with the State of Wisconsin and Milwaukee County creating an authority for the redevelopment and reuse of property in the City of Milwaukee which has become available by the closing of the 440th Air Force Reserve Station; and

Whereas, The parties have established an intergovernmental redevelopment and reuse authority known as the Milwaukee 440th Local Redevelopment Authority (440th LRA), pursuant to the authority granted under s. 66.0301, Wis. Stats., and relevant federal law; and

Whereas, The development of a base reuse plan will materially contribute to economic development and job creation in the City and all of Southeast Wisconsin; and

Whereas, The successful reuse of the 440th Air Force Reserve Station will require sound community planning; and

Whereas, Communities surrounding the airport have expressed concerns about the proximity of Signature Flight Support and Skyway Airlines, Inc., to residential areas, thereby creating enormous amounts of noise and exhaust fumes; now, therefore, be it
