Analysis
This resolution authorizes an expenditure of $350,000 from the Development Fund for various redevelopment activities to facilitate reinvestment in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor. These activities will include streetscaping, demolition of blighted buildings and brownfields redevelopment.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) is working to create redevelopment opportunities in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor (“Corridor”); and

Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) will work to enhance and compliment streetscaping activities planned for the Corridor; and

Whereas, Demolition of blighted, structurally unsound buildings is necessary to eliminate health and safety hazards in the Corridor; and

Whereas, The City has recognized that many of the properties in the Corridor are considered brownfields, whose use and redevelopment are complicated by actual or perceived environmental contamination and are an important factor affecting tax delinquency, blight and other development issues facing the City; and

Whereas, Funding of $350,000 from the Development Fund will provide DCD with the tools and the flexibility needed to address some of the physical challenges that impact the Corridor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Comptroller is directed to transfer $350,000 from the Development Fund Parent Account to Account No. UR03398000 to undertake the activities described herein; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Department of City Development is directed to enter into contracts and agreements necessary to carryout said streetscaping, demolition and brownfield redevelopment activities in accordance with City...
