Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Safe Streets Initiative/Project Safe Neighborhood Anti-Gang Pilot Program Grant.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Safe Streets Initiative/Project Safe Neighborhood Anti-Gang Pilot Program Grant from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $900,000 with a city share of $0 and a grantor share of $900,000. The purpose of this project is to expand a Milwaukee-specific, comprehensive anti-gang strategy around the city through integration of enforcement strategies coordinated with prevention and intervention projects. This grant also funds a Crime & Intelligence Specialist position, which will be responsible for collecting, evaluating, and disseminating criminal intelligence.

Body:
Whereas, Under CFDA 16.744, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 06/01/07 to 04/30/09 would cost $900,000, which would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance, is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it
