Title
Resolution authorizing the acceptance and expenditure of an award from the 2007 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence for the improvement of the Marsupial Bridge beneath the Holton Street Viaduct.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Infrastructure Services Division to accept and expend an award of $10,000 from the 2007 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence for the purposes of purchasing and installing pedestrian amenities and video equipment within the Media Garden at the south end of the Marsupial Bridge.
Body
Whereas, The Department of Public Works constructed a pedestrian/bicycle bridge beneath the Holton Street viaduct, known as the Marsupial Bridge, which was dedicated at a ceremony on November 10, 2005; and
Whereas, The Marsupial Bridge was nominated for a Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence, which honors urban spaces which represent excellence and contribution to a rich urban experience; and
Whereas, The Marsupial Bridge received a silver prize medal with an award of $10,000; and
Whereas, The Media Garden at the south end of the Marsupial Bridge has been the location for various public events, such as showing outdoor movies, a dance concert, and other public activities; and
Whereas, Additional pedestrian amenities and video equipment in the Media Garden would enhance the enjoyment of the public space; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works - Infrastructure Services Division is authorized to accept and expend the award of $10,000 from the 2007 Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence for the purposes of purchasing and installing pedestrian amenities and video equipment within the Media Garden of the Marsupial Bridge, in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions; and, be it
