Analysis
This resolution directs the City Engineer to apply for a 2008 Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater grant (UNPS & SW) grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) in the amount of $300,000 with a City share of $150,000 and a grantor share of $150,000. The purpose of this grant is to aid in funding for the replacement of seventy storm water inlets, which are tributary to the Lincoln Creek and located in the area bounded by Lincoln Creek, West Start Street, North 40th Street and West Villard Avenue, with sumped catch basins.
Body
Whereas, Stormwater pollution is an important component of the City of Milwaukee’s stormwater management regulation and the City’s permit with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR); and

Whereas, The City Engineer intends to apply for a grant from the WDNR to help construct practices that promote stormwater pollution abatement; and

Whereas, Catch basins, along with routine cleaning, have been proven as a practice well suited for the removal of sediments from the urban stormwater runoff; and

Whereas, To assist in funding for the replacement of seventy inlets as part of said inlet replacement project, the City wishes to apply for grant funds from the WDNR under the Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater Management Grant Program; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant begins on January 1, 2008 and the WDNR would provide a maximum cost share of fifty percent of eligible costs, with a total grantor share not to exceed $150,000; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Engineer is directed to apply for a 2008 Urban Nonpoint Source and Stormwater grant from the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources...
