Title
Substitute resolution establishing a sister city relationship with Morogoro,Tanzania.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the establishment of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee, U.S.A. and the City of Morogoro, Tanzania, in accordance with the agreement attached to this file. This sister city relationship shall expire after 5 years unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council created the Sister Cities Committee to assist in the establishment and maintenance of sister city relationships pursuant to Sister Cities International guidelines; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee reviews requests for new relationships, investigates and makes recommendations to the Common Council concerning the establishment of new relationships, and the maintenance or termination of existing sister city relationships; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee has reviewed the application of Morogoro, Tanzania, and recommends that a sister city relationship be established pursuant to ch. 335 of the code; and
Whereas, A sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Morogoro, Tanzania will benefit both cities in the areas of economic and agricultural development, health care, education, cultural exchange, social awareness and tourism; and
Whereas, This sister city relationship will receive local support through the nonprofit Hope in Tanzania Foundation, established in Milwaukee in 2004, to provide assistance to the Mngeta Farm Project in the Morogoro region of Tanzania; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the establishment of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee, U.S.A. and the City of Morogoro, Tanzania, is authorized; and, be it
