Title
Resolution relating to the Department of City Development's home design competition.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Commissioner of the Department of City Development to submit a draft of a request for qualifications for a home design competition to the Common Council for review and approval prior to its release.
Body
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority has committed $40,000 of its administrative fee revenue generated from prior property sales to fund a home design competition; and
Whereas, Three winners will be selected, each having submitted at least 2 conceptual residential home designs that will become part of the Milwaukee Home Catalog; and
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority proposes awarding each winner $10,000 and the promise of future residual payments whenever a winning design is chosen to build a residential home on city owned or RACM owned vacant lots; and
Whereas, The Common Council supports the concept of a home design competition and wishes to examine the impact on city owned versus RACM owned vacant land developments and the impact of the residual payments on the City’s general fund; and
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority has drafted a request for qualifications for the competition; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of City Development is directed to submit a draft of the request for qualifications to the Common Council for review and approval prior to its release.
