Analysis
This resolution delays the construction of the Erie Street Plaza until the completion of the major Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District project taking place adjacent to the plaza site.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council approved the construction of a tax incrementally financed public plaza at the eastern terminus of East Erie Street; and
Whereas, As a result of the only bid received being significantly over budget, the Department of Public Works intends to revise the project’s specifications and to seek new bidders during the winter of 2007; and
Whereas, The revision of the project’s specifications and Department of Public Works’ intention to seek new bidders will delay the plaza’s original intended completion date of June 2007; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) has undertaken a major construction project adjacent to the Erie Street Plaza site; and
Whereas, The MMSD project will not be completed for approximately 3 years; and
Whereas, The proximity of the MMSD project to the plaza site may impact the construction of the plaza and the enjoyment of the plaza by Historic Third Ward residents and visitors; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to delay the construction of the Erie Street Plaza until the completion of the major Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District project taking place adjacent to the plaza site.
